Muir Beach is a beautiful Northern California beach, sequestered in a cove and a short walk or hike from Pelican Inn.
Named after naturalist John Muir, the woods are home to a rare virgin stand of ancient redwoods — the world’s oldest living things — and are just a few minutes drive.
The Pelican rests at the foot of Mt. Tamalpais, the Bay Area’s tallest mountain. Take a drive to the very top, East Peak, and enjoy a one-quarter mile hike around the peak. On the way there stop at at our sister inn, Mountain Home Inn, the last building before total wilderness on Panoramic Highway — if it’s a nice day you can enjoy lunch on its deck overlooking San Francisco Bay.
Hiking trails next to Pelican Inn include the California Costal Trail and the new Dias trail.
Enjoy views of Pacific ocean-side cliffs and on clear days you can see San Francisco. The Overlook is located north of the Inn, at top of hill on Hwy. 1.
